valentines day recap

Hello internet. This past weekend was Valentines Day and it was actually the best one I've ever had! First of all, I got my very first bouquet of roses (!!!) which are BEAUTIFUL and resting peacefully by my TV. Boyfriend also got me 2 boyfriend cardigans that I looove, my favorite movie (Shaun of the Dead) because I lost my DVD somewhere, chocolates, and then the best part of all: he gave me his favorite Dr. Seuss book and wrote me a really sweet letter in the back. Say it with me now: Awwwww....

So it was all in all a very good weekend with a very good boyfriend! I probably won't see him this weekend, but I will the following which shall be grand. This weekend kicks off the month (well -- more like 2 weeks) of 21st birthdays...two of which belong to my roommates! I'm excited that we're all finally turning 21 but it sucks being 20 for 4 more months while half my friends are now going to be 21...oh well.

ANYWAYS. Now lets get back to being cynical! Being a Comm major sometimes can suck majah dick. Every single class is the same, all we learn is that communicating is important in your relationships with people. THAT IS IT. That is what I am told over and over and am paying thousands of dollars to learn. My classes are cool, don't get me wrong, I just wish I had picked a more meaningful major, like biology. Or ART HISTORY! Jk jk.

I really should be focusing on getting an internship but all I want to do is find new excercises that will make my ass look fabulous. Any ideas?

Also...this is a desperate plea to any readers I may have. Does anyone have any suggestions as for what mah boo and me can do over Spring Break? We have a whole week off at the same time and no plans yet...so any suggestions are welcome! Whoever suggests anything shall get a present in the shape of an emoticon penis.

I'll say it in advance: You're welcome.

venting.

Do you ever have one of those days when shit just don't go right? Okay I know a lot of it is out of my control or whatever but today some stuff really just got to me. People bugged me, classes were stupid, and frankly I just have been irritated. At least I am gonna go away this weekend for Valentines day, even though VD is just another stress inducer. I need a paxil.

Sooo...I had all these plans for after classes today that I wanted to get done but now all I wanna do is take a nap. However, I did manage to make myself feel a little better by reading www.fmylife.comf. Shit is hilarious. Check it. Peace.

valentines day.

So this week I got bit with the creative bug (who knew?) and decided to do 2 things I would never, ever intentionally do:

1) Hot glue gun colored yarn around a glass vase (???)
and
2) Upload pictures onto Walmart.com, have them printed out, and actually frame them (!!!)

The second one I actually intended on doing some time LAST year when I went to TJ Maxx and bought 3 colorful frames...which in turn sat on my desk with those default pictures of black & white weddings and little girls in them for an entire year before I actually put pictures in them.

It was weird, I admit, being crafty and shit. But I ended up really liking the outcome of my first vase (two to go!) and the pictures look really nice. It was cool too, because when I was hanging them up, my roommate's boyfriend goes, "These are for you, and not Ryan, right?" And they were...but then Ryan saw them and actually suggested I make him one too! So that will be another addition to his Valentine's Day gift collection. I think I went a little overboard with the presents this year, but it wasn't intentional! I just saw some things I knew he'd like, and I haaaaaaaddddddd to get them!

Plus I actually have money this year, so why not.

Love ya hoes.

fun facts.

So this stupid thing has been going around on Facebook about posting 25 random facts about yourself that no one knows. And everyone always puts like "I have THE BESTTTTT family/friends/boyfriend" and "I love to LAUGH!!!!!" and "I REALLY LIKE BEING HAPPY!" And I'm sitting here like, WOW I NEVER KNEW THAT ABOUT YOU! SYKE!!! Put something interesting if you're gonna even do these things. Your friends aren't reading that and thinking "OMG! THAT WAS SOOOO SWEET OF HER TO GENERALIZE ME INTO HER ENTIRE GROUP OF FRIENDS AND SAY I AM PART OF THE BEST EVER IN THE WORLD!!!" No!! I'd rather laugh at the fact that you threw up on your cat in 3rd grade and tried to put her in the washing machine!

Speaking of facts, here are some about me, because I kind of like these things:

-I go through phases of cleaning my room, working out, dieting, doing my hair a certain way, and wearing certain pieces of clothing. I have never really "stuck" to anything.
-I have a general idea of how I want my life to go, and its definitely going to turn out the way I want.
-I don't know why I can never get to sleep at night at a decent hour, even when the night before I got 5 hours of sleep and no nap during the day. I will not go to bed before 1am.
-Speaking of naps, I don't think there's a "bad" time to nap. For instance, I took one tonight at 8pm and woke up at 10pm. That one was kind of an accident, but I've definitely taken a nap later than that on purpose.
-I used to not be obsessed with shoes whatsoever, but now I'm falling into my mother's shoe shopping patterns.
-When I'm older and have a stable life on my own, I am going to rescue a dog from the animal shelter.
-I love any form of online communication and I want to study that and work with that in my future career.
-When I write things down, 80% of the time I think it sucks.
-I used to have a blog when I was in middle/high school and I think that those posts are some of the funniest things I've ever read (now).
-I love Craigslist.
-I always look at hairstyles/colors like I'm going to do some drastic change and it never happens, THUS, I've had the same haircut for going on 6 years now.
-My mom was diagnosed with skin cancer a few weeks ago, and so I will never go tanning again, but thats okay because I am obsessed with self-tanners anyway.
-I need "me" time everyday for a little bit.
-I'm going to bed now. Gnight!

pomegranates.

With the economy in the toilet and everyone closing their wallets to things they'd normally want to splurge on, there seems to be one thing people can't get enough of.

POMEGRANATE.

I don't know what it is about this fruit that suddenly awe-struck an entire nation, but we Americans can't get enough of pomegranate.

Completely curious and new to the fruit, I decided to venture to my neighborhood Giant store to pick up a few pomegranates. To my surprise, I had to pay $8 for two of these somewhat onion-y looking things! I had never tasted anything pomegranetized, so you can bet I was a little annoyed and praying that my next snack would be worth the possible five dollar footlong I was sacrificing for research.

First of all, figuring out how to actually get to the good stuff in the fruit is quite a challenge in itself. One of my roommates told me she watched a video on YouTube about how to cut the fruit, and although I do not recall the exact directions, she explained that it involved soaking it in lukewarm water, a dash of salt, and traditional Native American folk dance. I decided against the YouTube idea and found that cutting it clean in half worked pretty well. I was a little surprised to find what was waiting for me when I cut it open...

Did I accidentally buy a cow's brain? What exactly is going on here? Again, my trusty roommate explained to me that the seedy/brainy looking pods inside were actually the fruit. So I carefully spooned out the little buggers because apparently (i.e. this happened) if you roughhouse with them, they WILL spray you.

And then I ate them. And I enjoyed them. But I still was curious...why all the fuss? There are definitely fruit on my list that I would much rather eat, smell like, drink, shampoo my hair with than pomegranate. Sure, the pom has a sexy antioxidant that fights cancer and crime, but what fruit DOESN'T these days? And sure, the pom has a unique texture and form...but excuse me, BANANAS ANYONE? Bananas have an easy-grip shape and smooth texture making for the perfect comfort food. With the pom, you still have seeds you either need to chew up and swallow (ew!) or spit out!

TOO MUCH EFFORT.

Don't get me wrong, I plan on eating a pomegranate for lunch tomorrow. I just don't plan on buying any of the following:

Nice try, pomegranate. But I saw "The DaVinci Code" and you were no where in it!

All in all, I give this trend 3 out of 5 stars because while I do like the taste and its interesting shell, I can't believe they have pomegranate chandeliers.

★★★

WOOOOOOOOO SUPERBOWL!!!!!!

'Gratz Steelers! Syke!
